The 4th annual fixture of the match between Abridge and the UK&I Jewish Golf Society took place last week.
All of the excellent organising was between Stephen Acton and Andy Hoffbrand beforehand, but unfortunately Andy wasn’t well and didn’t get to play on the day. We wish him much better.
Each side fielded 12 players which was the most since the inception of the fixture with both men and women taking part for both sides. The format was 4 Ball Better Ball Matchplay.
Unfortunately, after many weeks of unbroken sunshine, the weather turned and we had quite heavy rain, lower temperatures and a biting wind. Nonetheless, we all braved the conditions, and no one came off, although some were tempted!
The course was truly magnificent! All the visitors were so impressed with the beautiful conditions, most of us having been playing on straw-like fairways at our home clubs, we were treated to lush, springy green grass on the fairways and perfect greens.
As always, Abridge made us feel very welcome; their warmth and hospitality, excellent food and general camaraderie has made this one of our favourite fixtures of the year. The UK&I were victorious, (by a generous margin), but everyone enjoyed their matches which were all played in good spirit. We were also winners in being the guests of Abridge, so a very big thank you to all involved, and we already look forward to next year.
